ADDITIONS TO MANATTJONES ADVISORY BOARD AUGMENTS CONSULTING FIRM'S NAFTA EXPERTISE

WASHINGTON, D.C. and LOS ANGELES, January 9, 2002 - Manatt Jones Global Strategies, LLC, a subsidiary of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, announced today that former Canadian Ambassador to Mexico and Guatemala David J. S. Winfield, and Mexico's Ambassador at Large and Special Presidential Envoy Andrés Rozental, have been named to the Board of Advisors of the international consulting Firm.

"The addition of Ambassadors Winfield and Rozental provides ManattJones clients access to knowledgeable consultants in all three NAFTA countries," said former U.S. Ambassador to Mexico James R. Jones, Chief Executive Officer of ManattJones. "Both ambassadors are career diplomats with extensive experience in global trade and policy and an understanding of Canada and Mexico's business practices and customs. Their expertise is a significant asset we can offer our clients expanding into Mexico or doing business involving NAFTA matters.

Ambassador Jones was U.S. Ambassador to Mexico from 1993 to 1997, the period during which the NAFTA legislation was drafted and implemented. He has worked extensively with both foreign and domestic businesses on global trade and international expansion in Mexico and other Latin American countries. Jones is also Chairman of the U.S.-Mexico Business Commission and of the International Business Council of the Greater Washington Board of Trade.

Ambassador Winfield was a member of the Canadian Trade Commissioner and Foreign Services from 1965 to 1995. During that time, he served Canada in Holland, Turkey, Japan, Mexico and New York. From 1989-95, he was Canada's Ambassador to Mexico, and he served, concurrently, as Canada's Ambassador to Guatemala from 1989-91. Since February 2000, Ambassador Winfield has been Executive Director of The Toronto International Leadership Center for Financial Sector Supervision, which provides leadership training to financial sector supervisory executives from around the world.

Ambassador Rozental is a former Deputy Foreign Minister of Mexico (1988-94). In December 2000, Mexico's President Vicente Fox named him Ambassador at Large and Special Presidential Envoy. Ambassador Rozental is a leading authority on international issues, and his experience includes service as Mexican Ambassador to the United Nations in Switzerland, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
